Project 4 : BIM Collaboration and Management Tools

FARO: 3D measurement technology
Computer-aided measurement and imaging devices and software. Technology from FARO permits high-precision 3D measurement, imaging and comparison of parts and compound structures. The devices are used for inspecting components and assemblies, production planning, documenting large volume spaces or structures in 3D, surveying and construction.

Hobs Studios: 3D printing
3D solutions for architectural, engineering, construction and product designers. Hobs has an impressive selection of technologies including full colour 3D printing, stereolithography (SLA) and multijet 3D printing to ensure we can support all forms of rapid prototyping.

Asite: BIM Collaboration and Management Tools

IDN: Interactive technologies
IDN specialise in collaboration and communications in the work place by integrating and supporting the adoption of technology. This includes interactive displays, digital signage, video conferencing, room booking technology, audio, control and collaboration tools.

What Are BIM Hubs?
BIM Hubs are part of a national and regional network established by CIC to promote a consistent understanding of what BIM means to the industry and its impact through all levels of the supply chain.
The resounding strapline to BIM is that we need to work better together and the Thames Valley BIM Hub meet regularly to:
•share BIM knowledge and best practice
•facilitate collaborative activity – helping companies to meet ‘BIM Buddies’
•support the development of the supply chain’s BIM capabilities
•increase BIM capacity across the region
•ensure regional input into national discussion and policy decisions

BIM is the future, so whatever your interest or level of involvement, please join us!

To book your place email Tina@secbe.org.uk
There is no charge for this event but do please let Tina know if you book, but are subsequently unable to attend.

December 2014 marks a milestone for Michael Aubrey Partnership as we celebrate 20 years of delivering innovative design solutions to our Customers.

BIM Team

In that time we have grown from just two Directors to a team of twelve. Celebrating this achievement Managing Director, John Staves said

“It’s been a rollercoaster 20 years. We’ve been through two recessions and thankfully we’re still here. The last recession in 2009 was probably the hardest, but we’ve pulled through and our early adoption of BIM was one of the main reasons that we have survived.

I am passionate about good design and firmly believe that if you put the effort into design before it reaches site, you have fewer site problems, resulting in projects that run on time and rarely go over budget.

We wouldn’t still be here if it wasn’t for our brilliant team, most of whom have been with us since the early days, so I’d like to say a big thank you to them.”

What better way to celebrate than with a cake, champagne and a great night out with our team in Wokingham.

Thank you to all our customers who have supported us along the way and to Suzanne Seymour for making our cake!

Excited children, teachers and Governors gathered this morning, to celebrate the opening of the new reception area at Nine Mile Ride School – and we were blessed with the beautiful sunshine!

Mrs Brown, Head Teacher at Nine Mile Ride School welcomed Dr Phillip Lee MP, to officially open the new reception.

We are thrilled to have been involved in this project and to hear the positive things that Dr Lee had to say about the project.

“An amazing project brought in on time and on budget”

“Humble, inspiring and focused” are the three words that John Staves used to describe Steve Wozniak the Co-Founder of Apple at the ICC Birmingham this weekend.

Steve was talking to business owners about how he started Apple computers with Steve Jobs and the lessons that he had learned along the way.

Steve Wozniak

Here are a few of Steve’s best bits;

  • Steve was a bit of a nerd who loved to play tricks on people
  • Steve Jobs introduced him to Bob Dylan “he writes about the things that matter in life“
  • Happiness = smiles minus frowns .. it’s better not to have the frowns
  • If you ever stumble across an opportunity, take it
  • Always try to have friends and be nice
  • Hire smart people and trust them
  • Be willing to move out of your comfort zone
  • You never take steps backwards in life, you are always moving forwards
  • Engineers create the things that make life easier – we like that one 🙂

Steve went on to describe how, in his garage he spent hours, days and months assembling circuit boards always striving to make them better ” when you want to build something for yourself you want to make it perfectly”.

Are you a building owner? Are you looking to build something? If you want to make it “perfectly” a good place to start would be to assemble a “BIM” team.

We’d love to talk to you:)

Inspirational day out with our brilliant team at the BRE’s “Innovation Centre” in Watford. The BRE not only fund research and academic training for PhD students, but they also train and inspire others to get involved in the construction industry. Well worth a visit for anyone involved in the construction industry.

BIM Technology Showcase

When? Monday 6 October 4:45pm – 7pm
Where? Whiteknights Campus, Reading

Hosted by: The University of Reading, Design Innovation Research Centre, School of Construction Management and Engineering

Seven technology providers will demonstrate the capabilities of their products and describe their different functions and how they fit within the exchange of information cycle. Short presentations with plenty of time for questions will provide you with a general overview of BIM related software.

Autodesk               Pam Bhandal
Bentley                  (to be confirmed)
COMIT                   Iain Miskimmin
Graphisoft             Andrew Norrie
Solibri A                 lan Baikie
Tekla                      Duncan Reed
Vico and Trimble  Laura Brown

Visit the BIM CAVE: Dr Maxwell Mallia-Parfitt

Our hosts, the University of Reading, are also offering the chance to experience total immersion within a BIM model. In the BIM CAVE (Collaborative Automatic Virtual Environment) graphics are projected in stereo onto three walls and the floor and viewed with active stereo glasses equipped with a location sensor. As the projector screens form a room sized environment, it is possible to have multiple users stand within one-to-one scale recreations of BIM and CAD models, which enables collaborative discussion, viewing and navigation of the model in real-time.
